Who was Aphrodite
Aphrodite was the god of love and sex. In Greek "Aphros" means foam.Her other name was Venus in Roman mythology. She was a really beautiful god, so a lot of god love her. She was a greedy and jealous women. She took things that was beautiful and punished women who was more beautiful than her. She made men and women fall in love with each other with her girdle. She had a husband, Hephaestus, and she always had affair to other gods because she didn't love Hephaestus. Who she loved the most was Ares, the god of war.
There was a story about Aphrodite's birth. Once upon a time there was a god named,"Uranus." He was the king of the gods. He was really harsh to his wife and son, so his wife and son turned back on him. Uranus's wife, Gaia, sent her youngest son, Cronus, to defeat his father. In the ancient Greek, the god had to defeat his father and became the king of the god. After they fought, Uranus was dead and his blood fell into the sea. Then there was the birth of a beautiful Goddess who was in charge of love and sex. Her name was Aphrodite. Aphrodite was floated to an island called Cythera and when she floated to the shore of the island she found out that the Seasons were waiting for her. They danced and sang for Aphrodite. They were beautiful, but not much as Aphrodite. When she stepped away from the pillow bed, and the Seasons gave her clothes. After that Aphrodite was led by the Seasons to Mt. Olympus.
Aphrodite was worshipped in a special way. Kypris or Cytherea was Aphrodite's birth place, so the island Cytherea became the center where people worship Aphrodite. There was a festival only for Aphrodite in Cytherea. The celebration was conducted in the entire Greek but especially in Athens and Corinth. Ahrodite was always associated with and depicted with dolphins, doves, swans, pomegranates and lime trees. People alway use them in pictures, arts, storys, myths and sculptures.
